Marcus James
45 Arlington Avenue
London N1 7BE
Born in 1973, Marcus James was raised in the West Country by artistic parents. They encouraged him to study life drawing from an early age, which developed his draughtmanship and artistic awareness. Marcus moved to London in 1993 and Graduated from Central Saint Martins
He then went on to receive an MA from the Royal College of Art, where he studied life drawing and anatomy in the morgue at the University Hospital. These studies were the basis for an exhibition and book called ‘The Anatomy Room, The Drawing Studio, and The Beach’ for which won the Sheila Robinson Prize for Drawing
On leaving the RCA marcus worked on fashion collaborations with Alexander Mcqueen, Chloe, Yves Saint Laurent, and Stella Mccartney. In 2015 Marcus switched discipline and started his artistic practise with an exhibition of Landscape drawings at 10 Hanover Gallery. His current work draws on exploring specific natural and cultural phenomena, dealing with a relationship to our environment through the process of drawing.
